These skills deal with critical thinking and other useful aspects on an individuals decision making skills. The Verbal Classification is one of these skills. In this part students are asked to identify the words having the same underlying meanings. Sentence Completion is another testing phase.

In this test students are required to find the most appropriate words to fill the blank spaces. Verbal Analogies is the third crucial part of this test. The main objective of this test is to question students on relationship between different words.

The non-verbal reasoning on non-verbal batteries of the COGAT test uses shapes and figures to evaluate and individuals reasoning skills. students have to figure out strategies to find a meaning full relation between figures. The students are expected to be efficient and effective in implementing these strategies.

The test requires no reading and no prior knowledge. The three key components of this test are Figure Classification, Figure Analogies and Figure Analysis.

In Figure Classification students have to find a similar relation among figures like the one that exists in the question figure. Figure Analogies are slightly trickier. In this part students are puzzled over relationship and analogy of words.

Out of the three given figures the first two are similar and the third one is similar to the answer figure. Lastly, in Figure Analysis students are given a paper of a folded paper after which the student has to figure out how the paper looks when it is unfolded.

The Quantitative reasoning or Quantitative batteries of the COGAT test evaluates a student’s reasoning skills based on mathematical skills. The students have to use mathematical functions in order to solve the problem given to them.

This is a test of their analyzing and problem solving skills. This is made up of three parts, which includes the testing of Quantitative Relations, Number Series and Equation Building. In the Quantitative Relations test students are asked to choose an answer between three possible choices.

The Number Series involves completing a series of number based on previous relations. The equation Building tests asks students to use mathematical functions to solve a problem.
